Thank you for visiting Skopje Now. I decided to create this website after realizing how little information exists on the internet about Skopje. Besides some basic details and the usual locations to visit in Skopje, there wasn't much else.
My mission is to help those who are visiting Skopje to experience the city from the perspective of its residents. I am sharing detailed information about the cuisine, some of the local customs, some historic background and places to visit in Skopje that are not on the tourist map. You are going to find information about some nice places where to eat, what domestic foods to buy at the market, and small details that can make your stay more interesting. On another note, I really hope that you will find it possible to tolerate the urban chaos that has been created over the past ten or more years. Skopje used to be such an idyllic place. There were very few cars, fewer residents and quiet neighborhoods. Today this picture is long gone. The city has changed. Somewhat for the better, somewhat for the worse. Cars have overtaken the sidewalks and you can't really enjoy it like we used to. The city and municipality mayors present a terrible picture of our society by leaving many broken on the public squares and walkways, by purchasing inadequate garbage bins which allow dogs and crows to spread the trash around. They also allow cars on the sidewalks. It is sad, but that is part of Skopje, a home of around 700,000 people. Nevertheless, there is still a charm in this city, which is quite strange and unique compared to any other city in Europe. |
